Everything about my former world of pastoring in the church funneled me toward standing in front of a crowd in order to prove I belonged. The literal steps up to a long, large stage platform with a microphone and stand, overlooking a large audience, represented my supposed arrival.
In reality I learned it was a precipice overlooking a death.
What is visibly and architecturally central in a church or sanctuary can tell you a lot about their explicit beliefs, but also their implicit rules.
