Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble.
Psalm 90:15
I wrote a poem a couple years ago to give language to my experience of melancholy, grief, and depression. As a preface to sharing the poem, I want to acknowledge that I in no way mean to romanticize the experience of depression, which for many can be debilitating and severe. Every person’s experience of grief, sorrow, and affliction is their own, deserving of every avenue of care and support.
